(DAYTONA BEACH, FL) February 6, 2010 – Mike Bliss qualified the No. 36 Wave Energy Drink Chevrolet in 29th position during today’s qualifying session for the Daytona 500. Only the top-two positions are locked into Sunday’s field for the Great American Race—and those two were pole position winner, Mark Martin and his teammate, Dale Earnhardt, Jr.

Bliss was the 37th car to make a qualifying run out of 53 total entries. He made a fantastic improvement over his Friday practice time by clocking a time of 47.606 seconds around the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway for a speed of 189.052 miles per hour. He gained over three miles an hour from his previous time on track late yesterday, a credit to the changes made this morning to the No. 36 Wave Energy Drink Chevrolet by Tommy Baldwin Racing Crew Chief, Kevin Buskirk.

As a result of his posted time and speed today, Mike Bliss will start the No. 36 Wave Energy Drink Chevrolet from the 15th position in the second of two Gatorade Duel races next Thursday. There will be 26 cars in the first of the two qualifying races and 27 in the second event. There is live coverage of both races, set for 2 p.m. ET next Thursday, February 11th on the SPEED Channel. Bliss is not yet locked into the starting lineup and will have to race his way into the field of the Daytona 500, however with the right help from some of the other cars already locked into the field, it may prove easier than originally anticipated.

NASCAR drivers will have two on-track practice sessions for drafting only, beginning next Wednesday, February 10th. The first session runs from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. ET and the second session runs from 2:00-2:50 p.m. Both drafting sessions will be televised live on the SPEED Channel.
